If you all are similar to me in the case that you want to learn Chinese, Korean, and/or Japanese, it's very hard to find ways to get started.
I've been interested in learning the three languages for a while now and I have made some headway in two of the three, Korean and Chinese.
I wanted to put together a list of websites, free and paid subscriptions, where you can find help. Please feel free to add some of your own as well.
Chinese
For this language if you are a Florida resident and student in grades K-12 you can learn the language for free at Florida Virtual School . This is where I am taking classes at the moment while its still free.
Also Transparent is a website that has software both free and paid for over 100 languages. I highly recommend this website. I brought 2 Chinese language softwares from here and it is worth the price, imo anyway.
I have another link for those of you wanting or needing help learning Chinese. It is called Learning Chinese Online (clever isn't it). I have not personally checked it out yet, but i will shortly. ^.^
Likewise, I found this link(the previous one) on Columbia's website.
EnterZon is an interactive multimedia game that you can play to learn Chinese. I use this as well. I personally like it when I can have fun while doing things and I love, love, love virtual games like this. Enjoy!
I've come across another helpful website that helps you learn Mandarin and it offers Cantonese lessons. It is a two-in-one deal! This is the link: Learn Chinese EZ. I found this site particularly helpful because it served to work as reviewing course for me. It is also good for beginners, I wish I had found this site earlier.
Korean
As some of you may know there is a site called Talk To Me in Korean. I've just started using it and I love it. Everything is broken down and is simple for me to understand.
Learn Korean Language is another good site. It's the very first one that I found when my interest began. It really helped to learn how to read the characters. What I really liked about this site is that it was made by a non-Korean person that went through the pains and struggles of looking for websites and whatnot to help him in learning the language.
Here is a more advanced dictionary.
Here is another helpful link BusyAtomdotcom. I also highly recommend this guy for beginners. It really helped me with the sounds of the Korean alphabet, pronunciation, and recognition.
Also I found this link through Columbia University and it is really cute and helpful Hangul. Here you can learn the basic and complex vowels as well as the consonants in context. Meaning not as separate identities, but how they fit in words.
Another helpful link is the Sogang Korean Program. This is very helpful for people in all stages of your Korean learning. It has activities where you can practicing your listening, your pronunciation, your writing, and your reading abilities.
Here is the link to Columbia U. where I found a couple of the links. The site also has some links to dictionaries and so on.
When I first started learning the Korean alphabet I played this online game. It is useful because after a while it sticks in your mind.
Japanese
Okay so I searched the net and I found a site for Japanese called Japanese-Online. I don't know much about it, but it's worth a shot.
Here is another one that I just found, Learn Japanese. The lessons are divided between Beginner and Intermediate and there are sub-units for each which is pretty helpful.
Also here is another site which has games that you can play as you study: Study Japanese. It'll be a great way in learning the language.
Also for those of you that don't know BBC World has a language portion on their site that is helpful. It has Chinese and Japanese. It's not the best, but it's a start.
All Three
A website for beginners is Livemocha. It has languages for Japanese, Korean, and Chinese as well as some others. This website is a give and take kind.
Another website is Lang-8. Please beware, I have not used these two yet so I can't tell you how it works.
